Alcorn State ran up to Pine Bluff for another Southwestern Athletic Conference game, and didn’t stop until it had left cleat marks all over Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
Alcorn rushed for 418 yards — running backs Joe Price and Darryan Ragsdale each had more than 100 — and easily defeated UAPB 61-14 Saturday afternoon.
Price finished with 141 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries, while Ragsdale had 132 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries. Ragsdale had a 65-yard touchdown run and Price a 50-yarder, both in the first quarter, as Alcorn (4-1, 3-0 SWAC) raced out to a 28-7 lead.
The Braves scored at least 40 points for the third consecutive game. They’ve outscored UAPB 117-20 in their last two meetings.
Alcorn only attempted 14 passes in Saturday’s game, with three going for touchdowns. Quarterback John Gibbs Jr. was 7-of-10 passing for 103 yards and two touchdowns, and also ran for three scores.
Backup quarterback Lenorris Footman was only 1-of-4 passing for 22 yards, but ran seven times for 49 yards and a touchdown. His one completion was a touchdown pass to Jordan Payne early in the fourth quarter.
Payne caught three passes for 46 yards and two touchdowns.
Alcorn State has an open date next week. Its next game is Oct. 17 at home against SWAC Western Division leader Grambling State.
