St. Aloysius thumps Riverfield again

Riverfield Academy’s Blake Daniel hit a home run over the left field fence in the top of the fifth inning against St. Aloysius Tuesday evening.
It came four innings too late.
St. Al scored 14 runs in the first inning to rout Riverfield 23-1 at Bazinsky Field. Riverfield will have a chance to avenge its loss on Wednesday when St. Aloysius travels to Rayville, La., to close out a three-game District 3-AAA series with the Raiders. St. Al has won the first two games by a combined score of 31-1.
“After (Monday) I was a little concerned with us coming out today and if we could maintain the same intensity, we did that,” St. Al coach Sid Naron said. “The same intensity and focus was there.”
A sacrifice bunt from Casey Griffith gave the Flashes a 6-0 lead. Garrett Breithaupt hit a two-run double with the bases loaded to make it 11-0. Jake Pierce was responsible for the final three runs scored in the first inning, as he drove in two with a double and scored on a wild pitch.
“It’s a lot of quality at-bats in there. I thought there were five or six quality at-bats that led to that 14 runs,” Naron said. “Plus some big time at-bats, guys staying on some breaking balls and being able to hit them the other way was very crucial in being able to get that far.”
Naron said Monday’s game against the Raiders was the most complete game the Flashes had played all season. His concern heading into the second game of the series was about whether they would come out flat, but the leadership of the seniors was reassuring.
After the previous two games, Naron said his team will continue to have the same intensity to close out the series with a sweep.
Naron, despite the offensive production of his team on Tuesday, still has concerns about traveling to Riverfield for a 3 p.m. game.
“When you have to go on the road like that, it’s always a little concerning for me. You’re in someone else’s environment so the focus has to be at the utmost and I think we have the leadership to be able to maintain it,” Naron said.
PCA 11, Franklin Academy 9
Porters Chapel Academy (4-6-1, 1-1 District 5-AA) wiped out an early three-run deficit by scoring eight times in the top of the second inning, and then held on to beat Franklin Academy.
Bailey McMillian had three hits at the plate, and also pitched five innings to earn the victory. Kyle Guider worked the last two innings for a save.
Brayden Ray and Leon Simms had two hits apiece for the Eagles, who had blown an early lead Monday in a loss to Franklin. PCA won Tuesday despite committing 11 errors — five of them in the first inning, when Franklin scored three runs.
“We just did enough to hang on,” PCA coach Wade Patrick said. “Defensively, it was a collapse. We made 11 errors and still won. You don’t see that all the time.”
Ridgeland 11, Vicksburg 1
Ridgeland pitcher Jeremy Powell threw a five-inning no-hitter as the Titans beat Vicksburg (1-12, 0-2 Division 4-5A) on Tuesday. Powell had 10 strikeouts and only gave up one unearned run in the second inning.
Vicksburg’s Latonio Brown walked and scored with the help of two Ridgeland errors.
Warren Central 13, Greenville 2
Warren Central (9-3, 2-0 Division 4-6A) scored in each of the first four innings and scored a six-inning run rule win over Greenville.
John Austin Burris went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run and five RBIs. His home run in the third inning was Warren Central’s first of the season.
Brooks Boolos doubled and drove in two runs, D.J. Lewis, Shakee Shaw and Colton Norris scored two runs apiece, and Josh Lieberman had two RBIs. Lewis also doubled and drove in a run.
Wesson 13, Port Gibson 1
War’treuz Williams had an RBI single in the first inning for Port Gibson, but the Blue Waves lost big to Wesson.
