St. Al seniors win big at awards night

The Anita Zorn Hossley Community Service Award was given to The Good Shepherd Community Center.
St. Aloysius Service Awards were given to students who completed 70 to 99 hours of service: Joshua Brown, John Owen Upshaw, Lofton Varner, DeMichael Harris, Emmanuel Schnell, Lee Jones, Caroline Puckett, Catherine Smith and Gabriel Riveros.
Bronze Presidential Service Awards were given out to students who completed 100 to 174 hours of service: Shelby Bottin, Breyanna Burks, Elizabeth Counts, Cass Hudson, Christie Johnson, Katie Martin, Rett Verhine, Justin Goodwin, Casey Griffith, Lane Hynum and Lee Simpson.
Silver Presidential Service Awards were given out to students who completed 175 to 249 hours of service: Addison Mathis, Imani Adams and Carly Grace Stribling.
Gold Presidential Service Awards were given out to students who completed more than 250 hours of service: Katelyn Brock, Grace Burnett, Lyndsey Cowart and Taylor DeRossette.
A team of four students, including three seniors, advanced to the final round of competition at the Math and Science competition. The seniors were Katie Martin, Katelyn Brock and Christie Johnson. Katelyn Brock scored in the top 10 percent in biology, Christie Johnson scored in the top 10 percent in biology and top 10 percent in mathematics and Katie Martin scored in the top 20 percent in mathematics and first place overall in biology.
Two seniors, Katie Martin and Ian Ulmer, helped take the St. Aloysius Quiz Bowl Team to the quarter-finals.
The St. Aloysius Mock Trial team qualified for the statewide competition. The three senior members, all playing the part of attorney, were Christy Johnson, Addison Mathis and John Owen Upshaw.
A team made up of Lyndsey Cowart, Cass Hudson and Lofton Varner earned second place at in the statewide Stock Market Game.
The Junior Auxiliary of Vicksburg gave scholarships to Grace Burnett and Elizabeth Counts.
Merit Health River Region’s Joe and Feeney Elliot Scholarship was awarded to Katelyn Brock and Grace Burnett.
The Knights of Columbus Essay Scholarship was awarded to Katie Martin.
The American Society of Military Comptrollers, Great River Chapter, gave a scholarship to Addison Mathis.
Red Carpet Bowl Scholarships were awarded to Lee Jones and Joshua Brown.
The Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Natchez Alumnae chapter, awarded a scholarship to Breyanna Burks.
The United Way Bruce Alan Ebersole Jr. Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Katie Martin.
A Pi Alpha Kappa Sorority Omega Chapter scholarship was presented to Imani Adams.
The University of Mississippi Billy Quin/Warren County Association awarded a scholarship to Shelby Bottin.
The Warren Conty Farm Bureaux awarded a scholarship to Lee Simpson.
The Joe Evans Memorial award was presented to Rett Verhine.
The Frank Logue scholarship was awarded to Bryce Richards.
Several students recieved scholarship awards from the college or university they will be attending in the fall. These colleges and universities include the University of Mississippi, Louisiana Tech University, Mississippi State University, Hinds Community College, Southwest Mississippi Community College, University of Mobile, William Carey University, East Mississippi Community College, Purdue University, Louisiana State University, Millsaps College and Mississippi College.
Special awards were given out last, including Wendy’s Heisman Nominees, Grace Burnett and Lane Hynum.
The Outstanding Creative Performing Arts Award was given to Addison Mathis.
The Lombard Burns Memorial Award was given to Grace Burnett.
The Anthony Cozzani Memorial Award was given to Lyndsey Cowart and Rett Verhine.
The I Dare You Award was given to Katelyn Brock and Ian Ulmer.
The Ronald Reagan Student Leader Award was given to DeMichael Harris.
The Alan Ebersole Memorial Award was given to Lane Hynum.
The PTO Unsung Hero Scholarship was given to Justin Goodwin.
The Principal’s Leadership Award was given to Grace Burnett.
The STAR Student award was given to Katie Martin, who chose Eleanor Phillips as her STAR Teacher.
Dr. Buddy Strickland presented Ian Ulmer as a National Merit Finalist and Katie Martin received a National Merit Commendation certificate.
Twelve students were awarded A awards. These seniors made outstanding contributions to Vicksburg Catholic School through leadership, work and scholarship.
The Bronze A Awards were given to Rett Verhine, Lane Hynum, Joshua Price and Shelby Bottin.
The Silver A Awards were given to Christie Johnson, Grace Burnett, DeMichael Harris and Elizabeth Counts.
The Gold A Awards were given to Katie Martin, Lyndsey Cowart and Katelyn Brock.
The Art Award was given to Shelby Bottin.
The Yearbook Award was given to Lane Hynum.
The English Award was given to Katie Martin.
The Mathematics Award was given to Christie Johnson.
The Science Award was given to Katie Martin.
The Social Studies Award was given to Katie Martin.
The Theology Award was given to Katie Martin.
Six students were named honor graduates: Dale Griffith, Lane Hynum, Lofton Varner, Will Pierce, Addison Mathis and DeMichael Harris. They maintained a 3.75 grade point average.
Two students were named honor graduates with distinction, Joshua Brown and Rett Verhine. They maintained a 4.0 grade point average while taking at least three honors courses.
Ten students were named honor graduates with special distinction: Shelby Bottin, Katelyn Brock, Grace Burnett, Elizabeth Counts, Lyndsey Cowart, Christie Johnson, Katie Martin, Gabriel Riveros, Ian Ulmer and John Owen Upshaw. They maintained a grade point average of 4.0 or above while taking at least three honors courses and one Advanced Placement Course.
Katelyn Brock earned a 4.65 grade point average and was named salutatorian, and Katie Martin earned a 4.76 grade point average and was named valedictorian.
