Two serious wrecks and a rash of burglaries in the city kept local law enforcement agencies busy in the days preceding and after the Christmas weekend.
Eight people were injured in the wrecks, which occurred outside the city limits Christmas night and the Friday before Christmas. Inside the city, police responded to a total of 10 burglaries between Dec. 21 and Monday. There were no major traffic problems in the city, Police Chief Walter Armstrong said.
Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said no felony crimes were reported in the county.
Five people were injured in a Christmas night accident between two vehicles and a deer about 9:25 p.m. in Warren County, according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
MHP spokesman Eric Henry said an Oldsmobile Alero traveling south on Mississippi 3 struck the deer, and the driver lost control of the car, causing a collision with a Chevrolet Impala traveling north on the highway. He said three people in the Alero and two in the Impala were taken to Merit Health River Region with what were called non life-threatening injuries.
Friday, three people were injured when two pickups collided head-on on Mississippi 27 about 6:30 p.m. Henry said a Chevrolet 1500 pickup driven by Gary Guillot, 24, of Vicksburg, was northbound on Mississippi 27, when Guillot lost control of the truck and it veered into the southbound lane, colliding with a Chevrolet 3500 pickup driven by Forrest McFarland of Foley, Ala.
Guillot and Justin Daumn, 27, a passenger in the truck, and McFarland were injured in the wreck.
All three were taken to Merit Health River Region. Daumn and McFarland were flown by AirCare Helicopter to University of Mississippi Medical Center. Guillot was treated at River Region.
The wreck shutdown the highway for about two hours as Warren County sheriff’s deputies rerouted traffic.
Two of the burglaries occurred Christmas Eve while another occurred Christmas Day, according to police records.
