Just when you think it can’t get any better, it does

To the editor:
Once again, escorted by a parade of Sheriff’s deputies and fire trucks, Santa made his 41st visit to Openwood Plantation greeting the crowds and listening gently and intently to the children as they whispered their Christmas wishes in his ear. Santa’s Visit is organized and sponsored each year by the Openwood Plantation Garden Club.
It is heartwarming to see such excitement in the children’s eyes as they jump up and down, some squealing with delight, awaiting their turn to sit on Santa’s lap. Although we don’t have an official count, it is believed by all that this year’s visit drew bigger crowds than any in recent memory. Possibly because the jolly old elf himself ordered the perfect weather for the occasion: sunny, not too cold nor too hot – ideal for the outside, eager anticipation of Santa Claus.
And how incredibly refreshing it was to see the children playing and the adults talking and laughing – all without the use of electronics or technology. Personally speaking, it was nice to put the gadgets away, if only for a little while!
An event such as this could not be possible without the help and coordination of so many. The members of the OPGC worked diligently making sure all details were handled with care and that Santa, his elves, the firemen, and deputies had delicious goodies and full tummies.
Many thanks go to Volunteer Fire Coordinator, Jerry Briggs; the Culkin Fire Department, and the Warren County Sheriff’s Department. Without you, Santa would not have the parade that all have come to love and enjoy. Your enthusiasm and child-like excitement make Santa’s Visit so much more delightful. Much gratitude is given to Terri Frazier and Brandon O’ Connor of the Vicksburg Post.Your coverage of our sweet little event has meant the world to us. Thank you for giving our neighborhood Christmas program such wonderful publicity. It would not be nearly as successful without your willingness to help in such kind fashion.
Santa, you take time out of your busy December schedule to visit with our children every year. Thank you for being the special man that you are. Please don’t ever change!
Lastly, thank you Openwood/Fairways communities for supporting Santa’s Visit each year. The active participation and happiness of both the young and young at heart are the driving force behind our mission. From the bottom of our hearts we say “Thank You”!
We’ve already reserved a spot on Santa’s calendar for next year, but until then, we hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and a happy, prosperous New Year.
