A power outage has reportedly left the city of Tallulah without water. The city has already been under a boil water notice following low pressure issues.

The city reported that a “catastrophic” city power outage Wednesday morning left the control panel at the water plant without power interrupting water service in the city. The city had no estimated timeline for water being restored.

“The City of Tallulah has faced several weeks of low pressure and or no water due to freezing weather, frozen and busted pipes and malfunctions at our water plant, just as many other municipalities in the State of Louisiana,” Tallulah Mayor Paxton J. Branch said in a released statement. “After believing that we had the problem in hand, early this morning we experienced a catastrophic power outage due to a transformer malfunction that did severe damage to our control panel.  We have experts on site and appear to be on the road to fixing this problem.  Right now, water has been re-established to some, but not all, customers.  We will continue to add customers back with water service in a staggered manner.  We appreciate the donations of water that we have received from everyone near and far.  We will get through this crisis and come out a stronger Tallulah.”

 The city is working to set up water distribution sites at the Community Center with water from Homeland Security and one at the Council on Aging for private donors. The water from Homeland Security wasn’t expected to arrive until Wednesday evening.

The city asks that private donors call city hall at 318-574-0964 to arrange to donate water.
