GREENVILLE, Miss. (AP) — A Mississippi man has been charged with two counts of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer.

The Delta Democrat-Times reports that 23-year-old Demarcus Powell of Greenville was arrested Friday.

Assistant Police Chief Michael Merchant says authorities believe Powell shot a marked Greenville police car that was patrolling the city Thursday night. Two officers were in the car, and neither was hurt. Merchant says the car was struck.
