SLAYDEN, Miss. (AP) — A gunman who fired into a mail truck and a car on a Mississippi highway on Tuesday was arrested without incident during a search of nearby woods and houses.

Marshall County Sheriff Kenny Dickerson tells news outlets that neither driver was hurt and that Brandon Chambers, 28, of Oakland, Tennessee, is under arrest. Dickerson said Chambers faces arraignment Wednesday on three counts each of aggravated assault and burglary of a dwelling.

“More charges are possible,” he said.

It happened on U.S. 72 west of Slayden. That’s in north Mississippi, just east of DeSoto County and a short distance from Collierville, Tennessee.

Dickerson said authorities did not know Chambers’ motive or why he was in the area.

Dickerson said Chambers stood in the middle of the highway and opened fire around noon. The vehicles’ occupants were not injured.

“The bullet just missed the mail truck driver’s head,” the sheriff said. “This could have well been a homicide we’re talking about instead of what it is.”
