MEADVILLE, Miss. (AP) — A police investigator says both a woman and her boyfriend consumed large amounts of alcohol before she was found shot at his house.

Laurel Police Sgt. Michael Reeves testified Friday that 23-year-old Katherine Sinclair had five glasses of wine at dinner while Greg Burroughs had five beers.

Burroughs is on trial for manslaughter, after investigators concluded Sinclair didn’t kill herself.

Wesley Dickerson, a friend of Sinclair, has testified that she came to Dickerson’s home to hide from Burroughs. Dickerson says Sinclair told him Burroughs had beaten and threatened to kill her.

A forensic scientist has said gunshot residue was found on Burroughs’ left palm and Sinclair’s right palm. Burroughs is right-handed and Sinclair was left-handed. However, a defense witness says Sinclair could shoot a handgun with both hands.
