Explosion at Mississippi construction site damages building

PELAHATCHIE, Miss. (AP) — An explosion at a central Mississippi construction site heavily damaged a building, although no one was injured.

Local news outlets report the explosion happened Monday afternoon in Pelahatchie, east of Jackson.

Three workers were welding tanks in the Jackson Commodities building when vapor ignited. Rankin County Emergency Management Director Mike Ward says the top of one of the tanks blew through the roof and into the parking lot.

The building, which was nearing completion, was heavily damaged.

Ward says none of the construction workers were injured.
