State closing Mississippi 465 at Mississippi 1

The Mississippi Department of Transportation will close Mississippi 465 near Mississippi 1 in Issaquena County today at 6 p.m. because of backwater flooding, according to information from MDOT.

The level in the backwater area at 9:20 a.m. Friday was 96.98 feet.

The road will be reopened when the floodwaters recede and the road is determined to be safe. The state will place warning signs on the road announcing its closure.

Meanwhile, the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency has set up a location at the Vicksburg Mall to assist those affected by the flooding to sign up for temporary housing assistance. MEMA will be next to Rainbow in the mall from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. beginning today and each weekday and from 10 a.m.  to 6 p.m. on the weekends.
