The St. Aloysius Flashes stayed red hot and on course in their quest for a playoff berth and district championship.

Tyler Breithaupt went 2-for-2 with a triple and two RBIs, and also pitched four strong innings to lead the Flashes to an 11-1 victory over Hillcrest Christian on Tuesday.

It was St. Al’s (9-3, 5-0 District 3-AAA) fifth win in a row and kept them in first place in District 3-AAA. St. Al and Hillcrest will play again Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in Jackson, and St. Al has two more district series left with Riverfield and Central Hinds.

The Flashes had an easy time in the first half of their home-and-home series with Hillcrest. They took advantage of nine errors committed by the Cougars — only two of their 11 runs were earned — scored in every inning and won in five innings via the mercy rule.

Kieran Theriot hit a two-run triple in the second inning and scored on a double by Ethan Parmegiani to put the Flashes ahead 5-0. Thomas Phillips and Adam Francisco each had RBI singles in the third inning, and Breithaupt hit his RBI triple in the fourth.

Breithaupt allowed one run and one hit, an RBI triple by Regan Britt in the fourth inning. He struck out seven batters and walked two. Thomas Trichell finished up with one inning of scoreless relief, and struck out two.

Central Hinds 11, Porter’s chapel 1
Carson Turner’s two-run double keyed a five-run rally in the fifth inning for Central Hinds that blew open a close game and sent the Cougars on their way to a run-rule victory over Porter’s Chapel Academy (6-6, 2-3 District 3-AAA).

Central Hinds’ big rally was also helped by three walks and an error. It left the Cougars with an 8-1 lead, and they scored three more runs in the sixth to finish the game via the mercy rule.

Turner finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs. He also earned the win on the mound by allowing one run in six innings. Turner allowed four hits and two walks, and struck out six.
Hagan Coumbe was 2-for-3 with one RBI and two runs scored, and Ranson Oakes and Collin Hautle also scored two runs apiece for Central Hinds.

Cole Pittman hit an RBI single in the fifth inning to bring in PCA’s only run. PCA’s pitchers walked eight batters, and its fielders committed four errors. Only four of Central Hinds’ runs were earned.
