The Tree House Banquet Hall is reopening.

The Board of Mayor and Alderman approved reopening the business after Tree House LLC owner Eric Lawson agreed to sign an amended agreement to install a metal detector at the building at 1837 Cherry St., which is rented out for private parties, receptions, banquets and reunions.

Mayor George Flaggs Jr. said Lawson told the board he would not hold any events where people pay at the door until the metal detector is installed.

“I did everything I was supposed to do,” Lawson said, “But unfortunately, we just had some people that have things their mind other than following the rules.”

The business was closed April 6 after shots were reported fired during a party.

Vicksburg police arrested Ricky Dewayne Larkin Jr., 23, 1101 First North St., on a charge of shooting into an occupied building. He remains in the Warren County Jail in lieu of $20,000.

The incident occurred about 12:09 a.m. April 6. Larkin is accused of firing the shots after an argument that occurred during a party. No one was wounded.

Mayor George Flaggs Jr. ordered the business closed until further notice after the incident, and set the Wednesday meeting with Lawson and the Board of Mayor and Aldermen to discuss the incident.

Lawson said Monday all of the security measures that were required by a previous  agreement with the city were in place Saturday at the business.

He said six security officers were at the event and Vicksburg police were on the scene “the entire night.”
