Mail delivery suspended in Eagle Lake

In consultation with public safety officials in the Eagle Lake area, the United States Postal Service announced Wednesday it was suspending mail delivery in Eagle Lake until conditions improve.

The area has been besieged by rising floodwaters in recent weeks and emergency officials restricted access to the area last week.

“It was a situation where our postal carrier could no longer deliver mail in that area,” Vicksburg Postmaster Lorenzo Terry said. “We will have to wait until conditions improve.”

In an effort to make sure residents still have access to their mail, the post office is holding mail at the Vicksburg Post Office.

Terry said mail delivery in the Thompson area, along rural route 7, has also been affected by floodwaters.

Saturday, Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace and Warren County Emergency Management Director John Elfer announced access to Eagle Lake would be restricted to property owners and those assisting property owners with efforts to protect their property or evacuate.
