Two K-9 officers join Vicksburg Police Department

The Vicksburg Police Department announced Thursday the addition of two K-9 officers.

In the release, the department welcomed K-9 Nadia, a 2-year-old Belgian Malinois trained and certified in narcotics detection and tracking through Southern State K-9 in Hattiesburg. Nadia is assigned to the patrol division with handler Officer Matthew Barnes.

K-9 Kilo is a 3-year-old Dutch Shepherd trained and certified in narcotics detection, tracking and apprehension through National Narcotic Detector Dog Association. Kilo is assigned to the narcotics division with handler Officer Donnie Heggins.

“We are very excited to have K-9 Nadia and K-9 Kilo at the Vicksburg Police Department. They are a welcome addition to the Vicksburg Police Department family,” Vicksburg Police Chief Milton Moore said. “Together they will assist the police department in patrol and narcotics divisions.”

The two K-9 officers join K-9 Cezar, who was already with the department.
