A day-long investigation is now casting serious doubt on reports and claims of a man reportedly shot in Vicksburg early Tuesday.

Just before 12:30 a.m., officers with the Vicksburg Police Department were dispatched to Merit Health River Region where a victim had arrived claiming to have been shot in the city.

The man, who is a resident of Vicksburg, claimed he had been shot in the Marcus Bottoms area. Now, that claim is in question.

“At this point, through our investigations, the evidence nor the injuries are consistent with someone who has been shot,” Vicksburg Police spokesperson Capt. Mike Bryant said Tuesday afternoon.

Bryant declined to provide additional information on the case but confirmed investigators believe whatever happened did so across the river in Louisiana.

Although the hospital is located outside the city limits, officers were dispatched to the hospital since the shooting reportedly took place within city limits.
