Early this morning, officers with the Vicksburg Police Department responded to a shooting that occurred at 240 Bazinsky Rd. at 2:40 a.m.

Upon arrival, officers found Brandin Lane, 29, lying in the front yard of  the home.

Lane had been shot once in the abdomen. His death is the first homicide of the year in the city, police said.

He was taken  to Merit Health River Region where he was pronounced dead.
