Elite Hitting Camp
Elite Baseball, LLC will host its Professional Baseball Skills Hitting Camp on Saturday, Oct. 17 at Warren Central High School’s Viking Field.

The camp will offer instruction from professional scouts and coaches, including Texas Rangers minor league instructor Turtle Thomas, and Atlanta Braves minor league scouts Smoke Laval and Rooster Southall.

The cost is $80 per player. The camp will run from 9 a.m. to noon for players ages 7-13, and from 2 to 5 p.m. for players ages 14-18. To register, go to roosterselitebaseball.com

VHS bowling tryouts
Tryouts for Vicksburg High’s bowling team will be held Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 4:30 p.m. at Fun Lanes at Uptown Vicksburg. The tryouts are open to all current VHS students in grades 7-12. Students must have a pair of socks and pay a $5 shoe rental fee. For more information email coach Stacey Banks at sbanks@vwsd.org

Hinds alumni soccer game
Hinds Community College will play an alumni soccer game on Saturday, Oct. 10, at Tom Shepherd Field on the Raymond campus. All former Hinds men’s and women’s players are invited to attend.

The women’s alumni game will kick off at 5 p.m. and will be followed by the men’s alumni game at 7. For more information, email Hinds men’s soccer coach Doug Williams at DRWilliams@hindscc.edu.

Hinds CC basketball tryouts
Hinds Community College’s men’s basketball team will hold tryouts on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 5 p.m. at J.D. Boyd Gym on the Utica campus. There is a $25 fee to tryout, and players must have proof of a current physical. For more information, email assistant coach Jonathan Nevol at Jonathan.Nevol@hindscc.edu.

Over the River Run
Registration is now open for the 32nd annual Over the River Run, a 5-mile run and race walk across the Old Mississippi River Bridge.

This year’s run is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 10, at 8 a.m. The entry fee is $30, with a family rate of $125 for up to five people. Because of COVID-19 restrictions the number of participants is limited to 400, so early registration is encouraged. Entry forms and event information are available online at southernculture.org/events/otrr.htm. Online registration is available through raceroster.com.

Entry forms and fees can also be dropped off at the Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation’s business office at 1302 Adams St., or mailed to: SCHF, 1302 Adams st., Vicksburg, MS 39180.
Race packet pick-up will be Oct. 9th at the SCHF Auditorium (corner of Crawford and Cherry Streets) from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and also the morning of the race at the race site.

VWAA fall baseball
Registration for the Vicksburg Warren Athletic Association’s fall youth baseball league is open until Sept. 30.

The league is for children ages 3-13, and the registration fee is $50. The VWAA will also offer a Miracle League for children with disabilities, which is free to play in.

Red Carpet Golf
The 4th annual Red Carpet Bowl Invitational Golf Tournament is scheduled for Oct. 10 and 11 at Vicksburg Country Club.

The tournament will follow a 3-man scramble/shamble format, and the entry fee is $450 per team. Play begins at noon each day. There are cash prizes of $1,000, $600 and $400 for the top three teams, based on a full field, as well as prizes for the longest drive and closest to the hole each day, and a Saturday night Calcutta.

Junior Auxiliary Golf
The Junior Auxiliary of Vicksburg will hold its Birdies and Boos for the Kids Golf Tournament on Oct. 23 at Clear Creek Golf Course in Bovina. The four-person scramble has a registration fee of $400 per team, which includes a mulligan, T-shirt, lunch and dinner, and a gift bag.

Hinds baseball camp
Hinds Community College’s baseball program will host its 2020 Fall Showcase on Sunday, Oct. 25 at noon, at Joe G. Moss Field on the Raymond campus. The showcase is open to players in grades 9-12, who are looking to display their talents in front of the Hinds baseball coaching staff as well as coaches from other junior colleges, universities, and scouts.

Check-in/registration will begin at 11:15 a.m. To speed up your registration process, it is recommended that participants pre-register online at https://sports.hindscc.edu/sb_output.aspx?form=24

The cost of the showcase is $100 per player. Payment will not be accepted until the day of the showcase, and will be by cash or check only. All players must also bring with them proof of a current physical performed between Oct. 25, 2019, and Oct. 24, 2020; and their own cleats, pants and other baseball equipment.

Hinds CC golf tournament
The Hinds Community College, Warren-Claiborne Alumni Chapter is hosting the annual Clyde Donnell and Othel Mendrop Memorial Golf Tournament on Wednesday, Oct. 21, at Clear Creek Golf Course in Bovina. Registration begins at 12:30 p.m. and play at 1 p.m.
