Two Vicksburg students place in HCC writing competition

Hinds Community College (HCC) recently held the Tammy McPherson Writing Competition across the college’s six campuses.

Tammy J. McPherson was a Raymond Campus English instructor who passed away in December 2022 after 18 years at HCC.

Individual campus winners and overall college winners were selected. All received certificates and cash awards.

Vicksburg-Warren Campus student Anthony Bowen Hearn of Vicksburg was named the overall essay runner-up.

Jesse Jones, of Vicksburg, received first place in the Vicksburg-Warren Campus contest.

Individual location winners were invited to a brief ceremony and reading of their entries.
