100 Years Ago: 1924

The Rev. C.E. Woodson and his daughter visited Jackson. • Maurice Jacobs, with the U.S. Shipping Board, was here visiting his parents.

90 Years Ago: 1934

Capt. W.E. Corkill, 5th Artillery, was here to locate sites for two additional CCC camps. • David Muirhead died. • Stanford Collier spent the weekend in Vicksburg.

80 Years Ago: 1944

M.A. Zenfell, a well-known local merchant, died. • A son was born to Lt. and Mrs. J.C. Snyder. • Services were held for Robert Lee Ross.

70 Years Ago: 1954

Rt. Rev. James Hannon was the guest speaker at the St. Patrick’s Day program given by the local Knights of Columbus. • John Smith Jr., of Utica, died. • Francis Leyens was elected chairwoman of the Retail Advisory Committee of the downtown retail group. • Frank Mansell was serving as a page in the House of Representatives in Jackson. 

60 Years Ago: 1964

Mr. and Mrs. Norman Scott announced the birth of a daughter, Kathryn. • Services were held for Rosie Jobe. • James Caston passed away.

50 Years Ago: 1974

Services were held for C.E. Ed Hayman, assistant principal at Carr Central High School in the 40s • Dr. William L. Lovett was granted a fellowship in hand surgery at the Campbell Clinic in Memphis. • Mr. and Mrs. David Joe Boolos announced the birth of their daughter, Amy Lee.

40 Years Ago: 1984

Michael Foley, 5, was rescued from drowning by another youngster, Keith Hall, and was revived by Hall’s father. • Francis Ethridge was cast in “Gold in The Hills” when she was 18. • William P. Brown died. 

30 Years Ago: 1994

Jerry Davidson Jr., of Vicksburg, starred in a national talent show in hopes of boosting his career in country music.

20 Years Ago: 2004 

A Jackson developer was the high bidder at the auction of the old federal courthouse building and the old downtown post office building.

10 Years Ago: 2014

Vicksburg National Military Park discussed their upcoming candlelight tour. • A semi carrying a load of candy crashed on I-20.
