The Mississippi Department of Transportation announced it will temporarily close one lane of Interstate 20 West in Vicksburg early this week while repair work is done on the Mississippi River bridge.

The outside (left) westbound lane of I-20 at Exit 1A — the Washington Street exit — will be closed between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, March 25 and 26. The work is dependent on weather and could continue until Wednesday, March 27.

A line of severe thunderstorms is forecast to pass through Vicksburg late Monday afternoon and evening.

The ramp for Exit 1A will remain open, although the lane will be narrowed by construction barrels. Motorists are advised to slow down as they approach the bridge and stay alert for workers on the side of the road.

MDOT is spray finishing the bridge’s handrails, and doing thermoplastic placement and joing work on the bridge.
