Voting is now open in The Vicksburg Post’s Athlete of the Week contest.

This week’s set of nominees are all baseball players — Connor Watkins (Warren Central), Kealon Bass (Vicksburg), Laken Bradley (St. Aloysius) and John Wyatt Massey (Porter’s Chapel). Voting is open until midnight Tuesday, and you can vote as many times as you want until the deadline.

Connor Watkins, a senior pitcher and infielder, led Warren Central’s baseball team to two wins in three games last week. Watkins pitched all eight innings, allowing two runs and one walk while striking out eight, in a 3-2 win vs. Neshoba Central on March 26. On March 30, he was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored in a a 14-0 rout of Raymond.

Kealon Bass, a senior with Vicksburg High’s baseball team, pitched and hit the Gators to a 13-0 victory against MHSAA Region 2-6A rival Callaway on March 28. Bass pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings, allowed one hit and no walks, and had five strikeouts. At the plate, he was 2-for-2 with a double, two RBIs and one run scored.

Laken Bradley, a pitcher and infielder for St. Aloysius’ baseball team, led the Flashes to a 9-5 victory over Central Hinds on March 26. Bradley went 2-for-4 at the plate, with one RBI and one run scored. He also pitched three innings of relief, allowing one run on two hits to earn a save.

John Wyatt Massey, a senior with Porter’s Chapel Academy’s baseball team, led the Eagles to a 5-3 victory vs. Benton Academy on March 26. Massey hit a go-ahead, two-run home run in the fifth inning and finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs. He also pitched four innings of scoreless relief, with six strikeouts, to earn the win on the mound.

Voting is open until midnight Tuesday, and you can vote as many times as you want until the deadline. The winner will be announced Wednesday on vicksburgpost.com and then be featured in our Friday print edition.
