100 Years Ago: 1924

Joe Redmond resigned as the clerk at the Hotel Carroll. • W.E. Stokes was named educational secretary at the YMCA. • Mrs. H.B. Jones was quite ill at the infirmary. • Louis Abraham died in Port Gibson.

90 Years Ago: 1934

C.G. Stith, former resident and newspaperman, died in New Orleans. • Elizabeth Young was visiting Ann Anthony in Trenton, Tenn. • Dr. and Mrs. H.S. Goodman of Cary announced the engagement of their daughter, Frances, to Harris Greer of Anguilla.

80 Years Ago: 1944

Mayor J.C. Hamilton urged citizens to plant victory gardens. • Mrs. John Bottom was in Vicksburg visiting her mother, Mrs. J.D. Thames. • Adele Homburger left for a visit in New York City.

70 Years Ago: 1954

John Brunini was a patient at Mercy Hospital. • Eugene Wilson died of injuries received in an automobile accident. • Mr. and Mrs. L.C. Latham and children moved into their new home on East Avenue.

60 Years Ago: 1964

John P. Cronin was in Vicksburg from St. Benedict visiting relatives. • Services were held for Sam West. • More than 2,000 Vicksburg residents got Savin oral polio vaccines at area make-up clinics.

50 Years Ago: 1974

Joy Juanita Criner and William Johnston Pilcher were married at Crawford Street United Methodist Church. • Mrs. Annie Louise Mendrop, a lifelong resident of Warren County, died. • Mrs. Joe McNamara returned from Alexandria, La., where she attended the Rapides Parish School concert.

40 Years Ago: 1984

The J Mack Varner family was filmed at the Cairo exhibit and the film became part of a Coca-Cola commercial series on Mississippi. • Ada Brown Kirkley, of Rolling Fork, died. • Calvin Wendell Hamberlin Jr. celebrated his first birthday. 

30 Years Ago: 1994

Buck Buckner and Edie Buckner captured the championship flight at the annual Vicksburg Country Club Member/Guest Tournament.

20 Years Ago: 2004

Two men arrested for burglary and gun possession were in the Warren County Jail. 

10 Years Ago: 2014

Vicksburg was deemed a top retirement town in Retirement Magazine. • Hawkins Preschool donated supplies to the area humane society.  • An area man who pushed a baby down a flight of stairs was charged with felony child abuse.
