Bianco earns 1,000th victory as Ole Miss salvages series finale vs. Georgia

Ole Miss got one win and two milestones for Mike Bianco.
Four pitchers held Georgia to two unearned runs and combined for 11 strikeouts, and Ethan Lege homered as the Rebels beat Georgia 3-2 in the second game of a doubleheader Saturday.

The victory was Bianco’s 900th at Ole Miss, and the 1,000th of his career. He became the 21st active coach with 1,000 wins and the the 98th in NCAA history to reach the mark. Bianco won 100 games at McNeese State before he was hired by Ole Miss in 2000.

Lege’s solo home run with one out in the sixth inning tied the game at 1, and the next three batters all got hits. The last, Will Furniss, singled in the go-ahead run to put the Rebels (20-18, 5-12 Southeastern Conference) ahead.

Andrew Fischer brought in another run with a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning to make it 3-1.
Starting pitcher Gunnar Dennis went 4 1/3 innings, allowing four hits and two walks and one unearned run.

J.T. Quinn followed with 1 2/3 innings and got the win. Austin Simmons threw one scoreless inning and Brayden Jones worked the last two for his first save of the season.

Georgia (29-9, 9-8) won the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader, 7-2, to take the series victory. It won Friday night’s opener, 17-6.

Charlie Condon homered twice and went 4-for-5 with four RBIs for the Bulldogs, and Dylan Goldstein and Kolby Branch also hit home runs.
