Voting is now open in The Vicksburg Post’s Athlete of the Week contest.

This week’s nominees are some of Warren County’s best track and field athletes — Koury Vample (Vicksburg High), Jae’la Smith (Porter’s Chapel), Adria Burrell (Warren Central) and Megan Theriot (St. Aloysius). Voting is open until midnight Tuesday, and you can vote as many times as you want until the deadline.

Koury Vample, a senior with Vicksburg High’s boys’ track and field team, won the MHSAA Class 6A championship in the 300 meter hurdles at the state meet on May 4. Vample clocked a time of 39.30 seconds to complete an undefeated season in the event.

Jae’la Smith, a senior with Porter’s Chapel Academy’s girls’ track and field team, won the MAIS Class 3A championship in the high jump at the state meet on May 3. She cleared a height of 4 feet, 10 inches. Smith also finished fourth in the 300 meter hurdles and competed in three relays at the state meet.

Adria Burrell, a junior with Warren Central’s girls’ track and field team, won the MHSAA Class 6A championship in the 200 meters and finished second in the 100 meters at the state meet on May 4. She also competed in the 400 meters and 4×200 meter relay. Burrell had a time of 25.57 seconds in the 200 meters and 12.23 seconds in the 100.

Megan Theriot, a freshman with St. Aloysius’ girls’ track and field team, finished second in the 400 meters, third in the 200 meters, and fourth in the 100 meters at the MAIS Class 5A state meet on May 4. She had a time of 1:01.77 in the 400 meters and 26.90 in the 200. Theriot also competed in the 4×100 and 4×200 meter relays at the meet.

Voting is open until midnight Tuesday, and you can vote as many times as you want until the deadline. The winner will be announced Wednesday on vicksburgpost.com and then be featured in our Friday print edition.
