VELMA LEE CURTIS ALLEN

Velma Lee Curtis Allen died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at Vicksburg Medical Center. She was 81.

Mrs. Allen was born in Winnsboro, La., and had lived in Vicksburg since 1941. She was employed with the Vicksburg City School System for a number of years. She was a member of Bowmar Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hilton Allen; and a son, Dean Allen.

Survivors include two sons, Ernest Allen of Las Vegas and Wayne Allen of Austin, Texas; a brother, L.C. Curtis of Winnsboro; and six grandchildren.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Lee officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 until the service Wednesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Bert Hamill, Ellis Cummins, Arvis Dennis, Tommy Jeffers, Gaylon McGregor and Bob McClure.

QUEEN ESTHER CLARK

Queen “Miss Queenie” Esther Clark died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, at her home in Austin, Texas. She was 79.

Miss Clark was born in Onward. She was a member of Bright Morning Star M.B. Church, where she was on the Mother Board.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Gloria Jean Wilson; her mother, Georgia McDaniel; her father, Fred Clark; and a sister, Eunice Palmer.

Survivors include three sons, Perry Bell, Eddie Ray Butler and Robert Clark, all of Vicksburg; four daughters, Ernestine Wilson, Barbara Acost and Helen Clark, all of Austin, and Debra Kay Clark of Vicksburg; a brother, Fred Clark Jr. and Cary; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other relatives.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.

LENA MAE WILLIAMS CORBIN

Lena Mae Williams Corbin died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. She was 76.

A native and lifelong resident of Vicksburg, Mrs. Corbin was a 1941 graduate of Culkin Academy and a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church. She had served on the Warren County Election Commission since 1978 and was commission chairman.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Percy James and Willie Johnson Williams; five brothers, Norman O. Williams, Ernest B. Williams, Percy O. Williams, Vernon M. Williams and Earl S. Williams; and a granddaughter, Kimberly Lane Thomas.

Survivors include her husband, Luther Aaron Corbin Jr. of Vicksburg; one son, Thomas Aaron Corbin of Saucier; three daughters, Betty Kathryn Corbin of Brandon, Barbara Gray of Utica and Jeannie Corbin of Vicksburg; a brother, R. Frank Williams of Vicksburg; a sister, Betty Jane Williams of Vicksburg; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Carl Barnes officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Wednesday until the service.

Pallbearers will be Roy F. Williams, Sidney E. Williams, David Williams, George Culkin, Ike Barnes, R. Edward McKnight, Oscar Barnes and Thomas B. McHan.

Honorary pallbearers will be Shawn Williams, Kyle Signa, Steve Williams, Russell Barnes, W.E. Johnson, Kirk Englade, Connie Williams, Nancy Burkhart, members of the Warren County Election Commission and Warren County Circuit Clerk’s Office.

COL. C.H. MACKEY

Col. C.H. Mackey died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at his home. He was 91.

A native of Vicksburg, Col. Mackey was the son of the late Henry and Mabel Glass Mackey. He attended local schools and was a graduate of St. Aloysius College. He was a member of the National Guard Headquarters Co., 155th Infantry, where he received his commission as a second lieutenant in 1932. He advanced to captain in 1939 and was sent into the Army in 1940. He served in Europe, Korea and Japan before retiring to Vicksburg in 1964 as a colonel.

He was a member of the Vicksburg Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, Historic Foundation and the Biedenharn Candy Company. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons, Clarence H. Mackey Jr. and Donnie Mackey.

Survivors include his wife, Frances B. Mackey of Vicksburg; a sister, Frances M. Betts of Vicksburg; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be said at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Catholic Church with the Rev. Thomas McGing officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 Tuesday night at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Tom Howard, Warner E. Biedenharn Sr., Richard Biedenharn, Mackey Howard, David Biedenharn, James H. Mackey, Herman Biedenharn Sr., James P. Biedenharn and Victor LaGarde.

Honorary pallbearers will be Edley Jones, Andrew Harrell, Harry Gillespie, Shouphie Habeeb, Jim Morris and Jimmy Waring.
