Woman free on bail in DHS fraud case

A Vicksburg woman accused of providing false information to the Department of Human Services was free on bail Wednesday.

Tiffany Sherice Walker, 30, 409 Locust St., surrendered Tuesday after being on the lam for more than a year following indictment by a Warren County grand jury, Sheriff Martin Pace said.

Walker is accused of giving inaccurate information to DHS officials, causing her to receive $6,945 in financial assistance that was not due to her between November 2011 and December 2013, according to an arrest affidavit filed by fraud investigator Kendrick Mitchell.

Walker was indicted in May 2014 but failed to show up for arraignment. Circuit Court Judge Isadore Patrick set bail at $7,500 and Walker was released from jail Tuesday after posting a bond.

 

Clues sought in drive-by shooting

A drive-by shooter was on the lam Wednesday after shooting at a home on South Street.

At 3:30 a.m., multiple shots were fired at a home in the 1500 block of South Street, Vicksburg Police Capt. Sandra Williams said.

“We do not have a suspect at this time,” she said Wednesday.

No one was wounded in the shooting.

Anyone with information about the shooting is encouraged to call Vicksburg police at 601-636-2511 or Central Mississippi Crime Stoppers at 601-355-8477. Callers to Crime Stoppers remain anonymous and do not have to testify in court. Crime Stoppers will pay a cash reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to the arrest of a felony suspect.

 

Man held in truck theft

A Seminary man accused of stealing a car from a Vicksburg dealership in 2014 was held without bail Wednesday.

A hold was placed on Jack Waters, 55, who was discovered to be held in the Hinds County Detention Center in Raymond on an unrelated charge, Sheriff Martin Pace said.

The sheriff’s department discovered Waters was in jail in Raymond after issuing a fugitive warrant, Pace said.

Waters is accused of stealing a 2012 Toyota truck from Cannon Toyota in October, according to the arrest affidavit filed against him. Waters entered the dealership, talked about purchasing the truck and when the salesman left, he stole the key and drove away, according to police records.

After facing charges in Hinds County, Waters will be returned to Vicksburg to face charges of auto theft.

 

Woman held for MDOC

A Vicksburg woman accused of violating probation was held without bail Wednesday for the Mississippi Department of Corrections.

Jessica Pope, 25, 4407 I-20 Frontage Road, was arrested at 8:45 a.m. by Warren County Sgt. Jason Bailess on a warrant for probation violation, Sheriff Martin Pace said.

Pope was held without bail in the Warren County Jail awaiting a probation revocation hearing.

 

Tools missing on Vicklan

Tools were missing following two storage shed burglaries on Vicklan Street.

At 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, an Echo weed trimmer valued at $150 was reported stolen from a shed in the 1600 block of Vicklan, Vicksburg police Capt. Sandra Williams said. At 7 p.m., a Stihl weed trimmer valued at $250 and a blower valued at $150 were reported stolen from a different shed in the same block, she said.

 

Food stolen from concession stand

Food was missing Wednesday after a burglar hit a concession stand at a baseball field.

At 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, assorted chips and sodas were reported missing from a concession stand at Fuzzy Johnson Park at Mission 66 and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Vicksburg Police Capt. Sandra Williams said.
