No injuries were reported in a traffic accident that backed up traffic on one of Vicksburg’s main thoroughfares Wednesday.

Kyra Reed, 25, 2521 Oak St., pictured above, stands behind her Kia Optima after it collided with a marked Vicksburg Police Department vehicle Wednesday afternoon.

Police officer Jaceson Banks, 29, was northbound on Halls Ferry Road toward I-20 with lights and sirens on his way to an emergency call. He approached the intersection of Halls Ferry, Pemberton Square Boulevard, South Frontage Road and slowed to let traffic stop. Reed was westbound on South Frontage toward Pemberton and failed to yield to Banks’ car.

Reed and Banks were taken to Merit Health River Region Medical Center. Both were treated and Banks was released. Reed was cited for child restraint violations because she had children in the car not properly restrained. A passenger in the car, Jennifer Shelter, was not injured. Another family member was charged with disorderly conduct.
