Former NBA player Derek Anderson will be the featured speaker at the River City Showcase’s athletic banquet Friday night at 6 p.m. at the Kings Community Center.

Anderson was on Kentucky’s 1996 NCAA national championship team and then played 11 seasons in the NBA. He was part of the Miami Heat’s championship team in 2006.
Since retiring, Anderson has written a book entitled, “Stamina.” Friday’s banquet will include a signing, and he will also host a workshop with local athletes.

The banquet leads into the River City Senior Showcase, a basketball game featuring high school seniors from around the region. The basketball game will be at Vicksburg High School at 3 p.m. on Saturday.

Tickets to the banquet are $20, and tickets to the basketball game are $10. Tickets for both events can be purchased at the door.
