Rain has left Vicksburg, temperatures expected to continue to drop

The rain has left Vicksburg, but the cold front it brought along with it will continue to drop temperatures in Vicksburg throughout the next week.

“Vicksburg is pretty much in the clear for now,” Anna Wolverton, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Jackson, said. “All the precipitation has moved east of you now. The Jackson metro area is still seeing some light precipitation falling, but it is supposed to be out of here in the next hour or so. The northern part of the state, that is still seeing sleet and snow falling where the roads are still bad up there.”

After reaching a high of 72 Thursday, the temperatures in Vicksburg dropped drastically overnight and will stay under 40 degrees for the majority of the weekend.

“Tonight temperatures are supposed to fall into the mid-20s,” Wolverton said. “Saturday night will fall into the lower 20s. Later on next week is when we are supposed to fall even lower than that. That is mid-week.”

The forecast for Monday night calls for a chance of scattered rain or snow flurries, but Wolverton said it is too far out to know what the precipitation chances are for next week.
