The Warren County Sheriff’s Office and the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks are investigating the apparent drowning of a Vicksburg man.

According to Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace, at approximately 10 a.m. Sunday morning, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office received the call of an adult male who had apparently fallen from a fishing boat into the private lake that sits adjacent to the Fairways subdivision and the Landings Apartment complex.

The Warren County Sheriff’s Office boat team and divers from the Vicksburg Fire Department were on scene and at approximately 12:20 p.m., divers recovered the body and placed it into the Warren County patrol boat and brought it to the bank of the lake.

The victim has been identified as 51 year-old Eugene King Jr., according to coroner Doug Huskey.

“At this time, it appears there were two people in a small plastic fishing boat when the victim fell from the boat and into the water,” Pace said. “He was not wearing a floatation device, nor were there any devices in the boat.”

Pace said the identity of the victim would be released after the next of kin have been notified.
