County fire coordinator Jerry Briggs said Fisher Ferry firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from the house but no flames. They entered the house and found the woman lying on the living room floor, got her out of the house and began administering first aid, while other firefighters were able to extinguish the fire.

The 88-year-old woman was not identified pending notification of family. She was taken by Vicksburg Fire Department ambulance to the Vicksburg Municipal Airport, where she was taken by AirCare helicopter to the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Information on her condition was unavailable.

Besides Firefighters from Fisher Ferry, LeTourneau volunteer firefighters also responded to the fire call.

The cause of the fire is undetermined.
