Corps reopens Steele Bayou Control Structure

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District opened the gates of the Steele Bayou Control Structure Sunday.
According to information from the district, district engineers and technical experts determined conditions were favorable to reopen the gates, which were closed Jan. 14 because of high water on the Mississippi River and its tributaries.
The level of the Mississippi at Vicksburg as of 11 a.m. Sunday was 45.27 feet. The level of Steele Bayou at the control structure on the landside was 93.23 feet, and 93.11 on the riverside.

The district will continue to monitor the river forecast and the condition of its flood control works and collaborate with its local, state and federal partners, according to the Corps.
