Westbound interstate traffic reopens after bridge struck by tow

Published 6:20 am Tuesday, April 14, 2020

Westbound traffic along Interstate 20 has reopened after being shut down for nearly two hours Tuesday morning.

At around 5 a.m. a northbound tow struck the bridge, forcing the Louisiana State Police to request all westbound lanes be closed until the bridge could be inspected.

Emergency officials said a tow traveling north apparently failed to lower its mast as it passed under the I-20 bridge. As a result, it was the mast that struck the bridge.

The inspection is out of an abundance of caution the officials have said.
