Another sharp increase in COVID-19 cases for Warren County

After a relative lull in the recent spike in new COVID-19 cases in Warren County Thursday, the confirmed cases again grew sharply Friday.

In the data released Friday by the Mississippi State Department of Health, health officials announced six new cases in Warren County bringing the overall total of confirmed cases to 74.

Overall, the state saw its largest one-day increase as 397 new cases and 20 new virus-related deaths were reported, some of which occurred from March 29 and April 16 and were counted as a result of death certificate investigations.

In Warren County, the number of virus-related deaths remained at two.

The number of confirmed cases in Claiborne County increased to 23 Friday. Also Friday, the University of Mississippi Medical Center and the health department announced another one-day test site in Port Gibson for Tuesday, May 5.

The testing will be conducted at the Claiborne County Parks and Recreation, 1120 Highway 61 N. from noon to 4 p.m.
