Fire reported aboard dry-docked barge

Published 3:31 pm Tuesday, October 6, 2020

Units with the Vicksburg Fire Department were dispatched to a report of fire aboard a barge that was dry-docked behind Big River Shipbuilders Tuesday afternoon.

Fire officials near the scene have reported large amounts of smoke coming from behind Big River Shipbuilding. Once on the scene, officials said the cause of the accident was a generator that had caught fire.

It was also reported that crews at the dry-dock were able to extinguish the fire ahead of the fire department arriving.
